Do your part in the quest to live a more eco-friendly life. Here are some tips you can use on a day-to-day basis that help you be more environmentally conscious.

  • If every American reduced time
in the shower by one minute,
        there would be a two-month
        supply of water for Philadelphia,
        Chicago, and Los Angeles.

  • Buying food in bulk avoids
        excess packaging.

  • Share old magazines and
        catalogues with friends
        instead of throwing them out.

  • Purchase reusable coffee cups
        and water bottles; refillable
        pens and pencils; and
        already-recycled items.

  • Less than 3% of the 500 billion
        plastic bags distributed
        annually are recycled.
These bags are used for an
        average of 20 minutes and
        take 1,000 years to degrade
        in landfills. As an
        alternative when going to
        the grocery store, take a
cloth bag or paper bags used on
a previous trip to the store.

  • Sign up for pollution-free green
        energy from your local
        energy provider.

  • If every household switched out
one standard light bulb for a
        compact fluorescent lamp light
bulb, it would be equivalent to
        taking 1.5 million cars
        off the road.

  • Purchase office supplies, such as
        paper, folders, and paper towels,
        made from recycled materials.

  • Chargers for items such as cell
        phones and MP3 players use
energy even when they are not
        plugged into the device.
        Unplug chargers for your
        electronics when they are
        not in use.
